In a divorce, who will pay child support, and how much? It will depend on the circumstances surrounding your divorce. How will child custody be held? What are the Incomes of each parent? Are there children from prior marriages?
In Connecticut both parents are legally responsible for the maintenance of their children. Higher income parents will be responsible for a larger portion of that maintenance, but both parents are responsible.
Child support payments are determined by the State of Connecticut Child Support Guidelines. Calculating which parent will pay child support, and how much, is determined by these guidelines. The guidelines are based on the concept that both parents must contribute to the support of their children, to the extent that each parent is able.
